TRAVEL: Exoplanet Travel Bureau

Want a holiday somewhere that you have definitely not been to? Head over to the NASA's Exoplanet Travel Bureau. Yes, you read correctly: NASA has opened a travel bureau.

Screenshot-2018-6-2-Take-a-virtual-trip-with-NASA

As you are no doubt aware, NASA has been searching for planets in other solar systems for some time and has amassed data about quite a few. It has now launched a virtual tour of three of those planets. The on-line tour is an artistic impression of each of the planets based on what we know of them from data obtained so far. There is a 360 degree view of what the surfaces of these planets may look like. Unfortunately NASA is not yet ready to offer seats on rockets, however you can download cool travel posters for six exoplanets.

TECHNOLOGY: Harley Davidson Blue Edition

Fancy a Harley with a bit of bling? Do not head to your local dealership. Instead, go to Bucherer, the Swiss jewellery and watch merchant. 2.500 hours of work went into this custom bike. Apart from the stunning colour, there is gold plating, as well as 360 diamonds, LED lights and two safes for your watches. The watches come with the bike.

STATIONERY: Octaevo Notebook/Planner

Last week, in PD: Cool Things issue 181, PD featured the Janus notebook from Octaevo. There is another new addition that has been added to the collection, a notebook/planner.

notebookplanner11

Half of the book is a weekly planner and the other half is notebook with blank pages. This is great for planning and fulfilling projects.

The notebook/planner is available in a choice of colours.

BOOKS AND WRITING: Pomera Pocket Typewriter

Are you a writer or a journalist? Do you take notes in meetings? Do you write when you travel? Then the Pomera Pocket Typewriter is for you, but only if you live in the United States. Asked why it does not ship world-wide, the company responded, "We are very sorry that we don't offer worldwide shipping now. We can't inform you when the timing will come, but we are considering it positively". Anyway, back to the instrument:

Pomera

The Pomera was released in Japan in 2008. It was designed to take notes in meetings. Pomera is now releasing it in the United States. Designed to take notes during meetings, rather than having to drag around a laptop computer, the Pomera has a folding full size keyboard that folds down to keep the unit compact. It uses a 6" E-ink display and runs on two AA batteries, which the company claims should give 20 hours of use.

Pomera-2

You can transfer notes to other devices using either an SD card, QR code or micro USB (no USB C, which in PD's eyes is an ommission since micro USB is being phased out).

MISCELLANEOUS: US Dollar Concept

It is not often that a country changes its paper (these days more likely to be polymer) currency. It happened in Western Europe with the introduction of the Euro in 1999. Some countries such as Poland retain their currency despite being in the EU. Over recent years the United States has been subtly updating its currency with slightly more colour and more security features to prevent forgery.

Onedolar2009series

Designer Andrey Avgust has created his own concept for all of the US dollar bills. The designs are beautiful and combine history with modern materials and security features. Note that the bils are translucent.

Dollar-2

PD thinks that this guy should be offered a job at the mint.
